Job Summary And Qualifications

The Nurse Navigator is a registered nurse who possesses advanced knowledge and skill in the area of cardiac nursing. Makes decisions of moderate difficulty. Handles confidential information regarding patient records. Operates and analyzes telemetry cardiac monitors, exercise equipment and patient evaluation tools. May be required to make critical decisions concerning the initiative of emergency medical procedures.

• Assists in the daily operations of the outpatient heart failure clinic.
• Documents patient treatment regularly and accurately according to departmental policy.
• Assists with inpatient heart failure patient care optimization.
• Initiates advanced cardiac life support measures according to SAMC protocols in the event of a cardiac emergency.
• Familiar with current standards of practice and clinical and inpatient protocols.
  
  

EDUCATION:

• Graduate of an approved school for registered nurses and current state required license to practice nursing. Advanced cardiac life support (ACLS) certification preferred. Certification as a heart failure nurse preferred (CHFN)
  
  

EXPERIENCE:

• Minimal three years experience as a RN with 1-2 years experience working with cardiac patients, preferably on a telemetry unit or coronary care unit required. Has been directly involved in education to and care of the patient with coronary heart disease, including heart failure.
  
  

CERTIFICATION/LICENSE:

• Current Registered Nurse license to practice nursing in the State of employment
• BLS required
• ACLS preferred per policy
